50 year Old Shepherd Recipes   Venture into the kitchens of the past if you dare by trying these old fashioned recipes of a bygone generation of Shepherd homemakers.

 

NUT AND FRUIT BARS   by  Edna Settle  -  1961

 

3 eggs, unbeaten                1 cup maraschino cherries

1 cup sugar                        1 tsp. vanilla

1 cup flour                         1 tsp. baking powder

1 cup dates                        ˝ tsp. salt

1 cup chopped walnuts

 

     Combine eggs and vanilla;  beat well.  Add sugar and sifted dry ingredients and blend well.  Stir in nuts and fruits.  Bake in greased 15 ˝” x 10 ˝” x 1” pan 30 minutes in moderate oven, 350 degrees.  Cut into squares.  Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
