50 year Old Shepherd Recipes   Venture into the kitchens of the past if you dare by trying these old fashioned recipes of a bygone generation of Shepherd homemakers.

 

CHICKEN LOG WITH GRAVY   by  Mrs. Sarah Finger  -  1961

 

1 ½ cups cold, cooked chicken              1/8 tsp. paprika

1 tsp. scraped onion                                ¼ tsp. salt

1 Tbsp. minced pimiento                       chicken gravy

 

     Mix all ingredients, using just enough chicken gravy to bind together.  Make a rich biscuit dough and roll to 1/3” thickness.  Spread the chicken mixture and roll like a jelly roll.  Store in electric refrigerator until 30 minutes before serving time.  Bake electrically at 400 deg. 20 to 25 minutes.  Serve in slices covered with hot gravy.

 

Rich biscuit dough:

 

2 cups flour                               ¼ cup shortening

4 tsp. baking powder                ¾ cup milk

½ tsp. salt

    Combine ingredients in order given and mix biscuit dough in usual way.
